Fantasy football owners rely on Michael Vick (notes) are in a lot of trouble this weekend. Quarterback Philadelphia Eagles are unlikely to play because of broken ribs, further weakening a team that had many analysts talk about the Super Bowl in the preseason.
Vick is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game (November 27) against the New England Patriots. It is still pitch, but not take the field for all practical exercises on Friday (November 25). If Vick can not take the field, then the Eagles will rely on the backup quarter Vince Young (notes) to run the program.
Young saw action in just three games this year, completing 23 of his 37 258 meters to go. He has two touchdowns and four interceptions in those games that manages to rush for only 7 yards on seven carries. His characters, understandably, pale in comparison to what Vick has done this year for the Eagles.
In nine games, Vick has 2193 yards on 181 of 300 pass attempts with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. In the field, only 535 yards on 65 carries, but fumbled eight times this year. Only three of these fugitives have been lost, but Vick was held out of the end zone by opposing defenses so far. His success on the ground has not been as prolific as fans expected, and the Eagles have posted a modest 4.6 record so far.
Each fantasy football owner who has faith in youth, it is a great opportunity to go with this week. The Patriots are not very good at containing the opposing quarterback, and if they key in the running back LeSean McCoy (notes), it will open up even more space for young people to play with. He has the tools to set up some great stats against the Patriots, but the reason he is not with the Tennessee Titans that he is more often difficult to be consistent. This inconsistency makes him a great risk when it comes to fantasy football leagues, but at the same time, it could also end up with statistics that fans will be jealous on Monday.
If you are an owner who is desperate for a way to get points for the change of position at week 12, Young is an option to take a long hard look. There is a risk in every sense of the word, but sometimes the risks are necessary at this stage of the fantasy football season
