Chipper Jones programs to retire

Third baseman Chipper  Jones will stop working at the end of the 2012 period, the  Atlanta Braves said.

The team organized to carry a information convention at 11:30 a.m. ET Thursday at the crew's springtime exercising complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Braves said the group and Jones, who will convert 40 next Calendar month, have indicated attention in him staying with the business in a yet-to-be-determined potential after he retires.

Jones, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Braves in the 1990 beginner set up, has invested his whole expert profession with the business, such as 18 significant group conditions. He has a .304 profession regular with 454 house operates, 526 increases and 1,561 RBIs in 2,387 game titles.

During the beginning of springtime exercising, Jones marveled that he was still with the Braves with his landmark wedding arriving up in April.

"Never in my mid-20s would I have given myself a snowball's opportunity to be in go camping and have a job at 40 decades of age," Jones informed The Associated Media. "But I like to think I've kept myself in very excellent condition over the decades. The abilities are still there to go out and get it done. I don't know for how much a longer period, but we're going to journey it provided that we can."

Former Braves administrator Bobby Cox said Jones should go into the Lounge of Popularity on his first poll.
"No question," Cox said. "A switch-hitter who has performed on victors and done everything he's done."

His 454 house operates position Jones third all-time among swap players, behind Lounge of Famers Mickey Layer, who hit 536 homers, and Eddie Murray, who slugged 504. His profession hitting regular rankings second among all swap players, behind Lounge of Famer Frankie Frisch (.316).

Jones was the National League's Most Valuable Gamer in 1999 and has been an All-Star seven periods. He won the 2008 NL hitting name with a .364 regular and is the only swap player in significant group record with more than 300 house operates and a profession hitting regular over .300.
